• Research and Development
Our organization is committed to pursue scientific research as an effective way to generate new knowledge through monitoring the health of the ecosystems where mankind depends on it for their survival. The biodiversity of flora and fauna found in South Sudan provide numerous opportunities for research institution and organization to undertake studies and investigation particularly in the Sudd, that contributes to capacity building the young/emerging scientists in South Sudan, as well at the regional and international level.
AERD works in close collaboration with stakeholders such as government, local communities, universities and international research organization. Our organization integrate students and early-career researchers with backgrounds in wildlife conservation, fisheries, forestry and environmental studies into our research programs to help prepare a generation of informed young researchers who will work with the local communities.
• Biodiversity Conservation
Our Organization efforts towards conservation of biological diversity is to ensure restoration of degraded ecosystems and habitat protection for wildlife. AERD particular interest focused on conservation of fauna in Sudd Wetlands. Our organization works closely with local community to participate in conservation of biodiversity to prevent human-wildlife conflicts to support co-existence between the local communities and wildlife, poaching as well as illegal utilization of natural resources to attained sustainable livelihoods of the local communities.
• Environmental education
AERD approach to environmental education is to ensure the engagement of traditional leaders, youths and women groups, local communities, primary and secondary students as well as undergraduate/early-career students to ensure that wildlife and the natural ecosystems are protected for our better health. The approach built confidence among the communities to become a part to ensure wildlife laws are implemented and offender face justice.
Our organization use different techniques to promote environmental educations messages through workshops, seminars and conference, sports for conservation of biodiversity, school debates, radio talk-shows, community dialogues, magazine and newsletter, mobile phone information services, posters and leaflet as well as campaigns which benefits the population in the targeted areas.
• Climate Change Initiative
AERD approach to climate resilience initiative is to support the vulnerable communities towards climate adaptation preparedness through studies and investigation focuses on climate change knowledge, mitigation and adaptation as the country faces frequently flooding, droughts and high temperature. The adverse impacts of climate change and variability leads to the loss of productive assets and human capital, coupled with the effect of uncertainty on agricultural investments, smallholders’ efforts to improve livelihoods, exacerbating poverty and social tensions.  Our organization works closely with the vulnerable communities to design programme and projects that focuses to enhance resilience, food productivity and gender equity to achieve ambitious climate and food systems.
• Youth and Women’s Empowerment
AERD approach to youths and women is to support the young people that are facing the most hardships and lack of belonging with the society. Youth constitute a big chunk in South Sudan, yet it remains the most subjugated and marginalized in South Sudanese society. The difficult circumstances that youths face because of limited opportunities for education and training, viable employment and health and social services. In addition, the unprecedented rate of rural-urban migration by youths leads to continue growth of incidence of substance abuse and juvenile delinquency is deteriorating the chance of South Sudan to achieved the vision 2040. Our organization focus to works closely with the most underprivileged youth to provide them with learning center, gender resource centre, career guidance, health check-up, environmental camps and vocational skills that meets the current demands of the markets. AERD believes that youths play a critical role in conservation of biodiversity, community resilience and social cohesion efforts.
• Sustainable Livelihoods Development
AERD approach to sustainable livelihood development focus to empower and enhance the livelihood diversification opportunities of the poor and vulnerable communities especially women, children and people with disabilities through education, sustainable agricultural practices. Our organization provide skills training to the local communities with emphasis to create self-employment and at the same time supporting the best practices of utilizing natural resources sustainably.
